When uploading spreadsheets containing reservation data, selecting an incorrect date format might give you incorrect results, or fail to upload reservation data altogether.

After designating which columns contain arrival and departure dates, GuestJoy shows you a sample of the data from your file, including how the dates are formatted in your file:

Based on this, you will need to select the corresponding format from the dropdown box.

All dates consist of the following elements:

[Year]  [Separator]  [Month]  [Separator]  [Date]

And, of course the order in which the elements appear will be different.

Let's use a sample date: 2019-09-17

The corresponding date format to choose is YYYY-MM-DD; now let's see why.

The year

In our date example, the year is written using all 4 digits; "2019". In rare examples, the year might be written only with the last two digits; "19", so you would need to select a format that had only "YY" in it.

The separator

The separator used in our example date is a hyphen "-". The other separators mainly used in date formats are period "." and forward slash "/".

The month

In our example date, we can see that the month - September - is written with a zero included, thus the month is represented by "MM". If the month was written without the zero when the value is less than 10, it would be represented by just "M".

The date

Just as in the month, in our example date, we can see that the date - the 17th - is written with a zero included, thus the date is represented by "DD". If the date was written without the zero when the value is less than 10, it would be represented by just "D".

So, this is why choosing the exact date format is so important! If you have any doubts, or your file uses a date format not listed, please get in touch with us via the chat in the app, or send an email to support!
